Come and sail in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Join us for the annual Comet open meeting at Merthyr Tydfil Sailing Club on Pontsticill Reservoir. In 1993 we hosted the inland championships and began hosting open meetings the following year.

For those who've visited MTSC in the past, this will be familiar; we plan to hold the briefing no sooner than 11:00 and start the first race shortly after. Be sure to be unpacked, rigged and signed up for the event before this time. With three races to be held during the day, the best two results to count. All refreshments, a buffet lunch and a donation to the class association will be included in the entrance fee of £14.00 per boat. Lunch and refreshments are also available to supporters for £3.50 each. Please try to have correct change, thanks.

We are easy to find, just two miles from the A465 trunk road. Click here to see a map.Local bed and breakfast accommodation is available, at the mountain railway station near the dam and at pubs and cottages in the village.

If you require further information contact Mark Govier, club membership secretary & owner of Comet 460, for further information.

For clarity: This open event is for single-handed "Comet" dinghies not the combined classes (Comet Duo, Comet Trio etc.). The event will be run under the prevailing RYA RRS with any local variations (minor; e.g. we normally start using lights rather than flags and expect to use a 5,4,1,Go sequence) detailed in the sailing instructions available on the day. In line with current Comet Class Association rules you will not be allowed to change rig type used during the series of three races on the day.

The courses to be sailed will be described within the sailing instructions and in detail at the pre-race briefing at 11:00. We use a combination of fixed and movable buoys to designate the course to be sailed.
