Come and sail in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park.
Join us for the annual Comet Open Meeting at Merthyr Tydfil Sailing Club on Pontsticill Reservoir. In 1993 we hosted the inland championships and began hosting open meetings the following year, in 2024 we hosted the national championships.
For those who've visited MTSC in the past, this will be familiar; we plan to hold the briefing no sooner than 11:00 and start the first race shortly after. Be sure to be unpacked, rigged and signed up for the event before this time. We're planning to hold three races in total, with a maximum of one discard.
All refreshments, buffet lunches and tea and coffee for the day are included in the entrance fee (fees to be confirmed when booking opens) of £16 per boat. Refreshments are also available to supporters for £4pp each. Please try to pre-register at least 72 hours before the event using our WebCollect system. This is so we can cater for the correct numbers with little waste, thanks. Registration and electronic payment is NOT always possible at the club as there is near zero mobile coverage (unless you're with EE); please complete this before heading to the club.
We are easy than ever to find now that the A465 dualling is completed, just two miles from the A465 trunk road. Click here to see a map.Local bed and breakfast accommodation is available, at the Parkwood Dol-y-Gaer Outdoor Pursuit centre (camping, glamping, bunkhouse and cottage), at the mountain railway station near the dam and at pubs and cottages in the village.
If you require further information contact Mark Govier, club assistant secretary & owner of Comet 667, for further information.
Click here if you don't see the leaflet in the box above.
For clarity: This event is for single-handed "Comet" dinghies not the combined Comet classes (Comet Duo, Comet Trio etc.). The event will be run under the prevailing RYA RRS with any local variations detailed in the sailing instructions. We will likely be making committee boat starts using flags for this event. In line with current Comet Class Association rules you will not be allowed to change rig type used during the series of races.
The courses to be sailed will be described within the sailing instructions and in detail at the pre-race briefing at 11:00 on Saturday. We use a combination of fixed and movable buoys to designate the course to be sailed.
Please try to pre-register at least 72 hours before the event using our WebCollect system.
